About Martinez Elementary

Martinez Elementary is named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas H. Martinez, a decorated veteran and passionate advocate for education. Over a distinguished 20-year military career—including service in both World War II and the Korean War—LTC Martinez rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1962. His life after military service was defined by tireless efforts to ensure educational equity, especially for Hispanic youth. His life of service was guided by the motto: “I’d rather wear out than rust out.”
